The ABYA is proud to introduce our current members for the 2020/2021
year who are here to ensure that the future of Airdrie remains bright.
Hello, my name is Muhib, I am 20 years old. I have been with the ABYA for about 4 years now and it has been a thrilling adventure. I live here in Airdrie and have been here since I was 10 years old. I am currently attending the University of Calgary and am in my third year of my undergraduate degree. I also volunteer at various other local organizations here in Airdrie such as the Urgent Care Center and at the Airdrie Public Library but I have not been volunteering there as long as I have at ABYA. The Airdrie Board of Youth Affairs is a great way for youths voices in Airdrie to be heard and is also a great way to meet many new and amazing people. The amount of events that we have participated in and the multiple times that we have made a difference in Airdrie youths’ lives has been remarkable. These past few years have been amazing and I am excited to see what the future has in store for us as a group.
2020/2021 Vice Chair
My name is Hitomi, I’ve been living in Airdrie for nine years now and couldn’t be prouder to call it my home. Having seen the tremendous growth our city has enjoyed and developed a massive appreciation for the community, I wanted to get involved with the direction it was headed; the ABYA has provided me the perfect opportunity to do just that. Full of driven and hardworking individuals who strive to make their city a better place I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my two years as a member. In alignment with my passion for history and politics I am currently an undergraduate student studying political science.
Hello, My name is Kaigh and I am 21 years old. I have been with the ABYA for 2 years and it has been a revolutionizing experience for me. I have lived all over northwestern Airdrie ever since I can remember. I am currently attending the University of Calgary and in my third year of a Zoology degree. I love all things Space and am an aspiring astrophotographer, with a dream to get out there one day. I enjoy playing piano and getting out of the city, whether on a hike or a camping trip. I have volunteered all over, the notable ones to me are the Alberta Highway clean-up and my high school’s car show, both of which taught me many things I carry across all of my endeavours. The ABYA has been a great experience for me as we have achieved things I wouldn’t have thought possible from a small group of youth and I look forward to working with all of these like-minded and amazing individuals to represent the youth of Airdrie.
My name is Rhiannon, I’m 17 years old and I am currently the recruiter. I am a hard working grade 12 student and have been a member of Airdrie Board of Youth Affairs since January of 2019. ABYA is a fun, interactive group and a great opportunity for me as a youth. My friend first brought me to ABYA and after that first meeting I was hooked. This is also helping me to complete my bronze Duke of Edinburgh as well as it will help with my silver when I reach it. I am a proud member of the 88 Lynx Royal Canadian Air Cadets in Airdrie and have been for four years now since November 25, 2015. The combination of leadership at cadets and ABYA has really helped me. When I was doing scholarship mock boards I was asked what my biggest flaw or down side was and I along with a few others said time management, which is a very hard skill to master but with ABYA, cadets, school and ninja plus family stuff I have gotten better at it. Two of my amazing friends are in ABYA with me and a few other friends from cadets.
2020/2021 Website Designer and Social Media Director
My name is Alex and I am a 19 year old resident of Airdrie, Alberta and I am currently the Social Media Director for the ABYA. I've been with the ABYA for 5 years and have been very fortunate to serve as chair for 2 of our busiest terms. I currently attend the University of Calgary and am pursuing an undergraduate degree in Health Science with a focus on Biomedical Science. My most outstanding contribution to my local community derives from ongoing involvement with the Airdrie Board of Youth Affairs where, as a cohesive unit, we strive to educate and empower the youth of our community. In addition to the ABYA I am a former WO1 of the local Air Cadet Squadron, the 88 Airdrie Lynx, and I extensively volunteer within the community through the local public Library, the Airdrie Festival of Lights, air shows such as the Wings Over Springbank Airshow, volunteering at the Calgary Aerospace Museum and Airdrie FEST. I am honored to have the opportunity to work with such a group that share such similar values of community improvement and I look forward to what these next few years have in store.
2020/2021 Social Media Coordinator
Hello, my name is Jack and I am 16 years old. I have been with the ABYA for less than a year now, and I can say with absolute certainty that I’ve had an amazing experience here. I have lived in Airdrie my whole life, and I love this city. At the moment, I have been volunteering at the Nose Creek Valley Museum. From what I’ve seen firsthand, the ABYA is a group that allows voices to be heard and for people to come forward with genuine concerns or wants for their community. I have met so many confident and strong people since I joined, and I hope to see more as time goes on. When I look at the ABYA’s history, I see moments where the group has stood up and made positive changes or suggestions for youth, and in turn, the city as a whole benefited from it. I love Airdrie, and I am excited to see people come together as a community and make the future of Airdrie something exciting!
2020/2021 Youth at Large
Hello, my name is Madison Broussard and I have been with the ABYA since July. Airdrie has been my home for close to 12 years and it’s an amazing place to live. I've always wanted to help my community and the people in it and the ABYA has given me a chance to do so. The organization integrates the perspective of our community's youth into local affairs and encourages teamwork, leadership, and the empowerment of young people. From the beginning, it has been a very welcoming and supportive environment; everyone is quite driven and devoted to making Airdrie a better place. The ABYA has further connected me with my community and in the coming years, I plan on continuing this journey with this great group of people! It is such a wonderful opportunity to be able to use my voice, my perspective, and my ideas to invoke positive change in my community, this city is such a beautiful place and to have a hand in building its prosperous future is an honour. Hi, my name is Anastasia Ogunbiyi and I am 17 years old. I’ve lived in Airdrie since I was about 10 years old and I am currently in grade 12. Although I just recently joined the ABYA, I can already tell that the members involved are adamant on making Airdrie an evergoing, positive and encouraging place for youth to thrive in. The ABYA gives youth an opportunity to give back and volunteer within the community, as well as creating an environment for young people to speak about issues they see affecting themselves and their peers on a daily basis. As I plan to become more involved within the community through the ABYA, I am looking forward to seeing what we can do in order to amplify the voices of youth within Airdrie in order to ensure the most positive change possible. From what I’ve seen and from my limited experience so far, the ABYA is a wonderful place to meet and collaborate with others that share the same interests and I am excited to see what’s next to come!
