Mirza B., Chair
2021/2024

Hello, my name is Mirza and I am 18 years old. This is my first year with the ABYA and thus far it has been an amazing experience allowing me to engage with issues that I am extremely interested in and affect me personally. This is my fifth year in Airdrie, before which I lived in Calgary. I just graduated from high school last year and am in my first year of Biomedical sciences degree at the University of Calgary. I feel very interested about topics related to health, especially as it relates to youth, and therefore getting to have a say in current problems such as vaping affecting youth health through the ABYA has been an extremely interesting experience. I went to school in Calgary and therefore haven’t been able to meet many of my Airdrie peers, so by being in the ABYA and previously participating on the Airdrie Junior Achievement team I have been able to meet many fascinating people that I have and will continue to learn much from. I am very excited to continue to be a part of the ABYA and learn from the wonderful individuals who are in it.

Yo My name is Kaylee. I have been with ABYA since 2021 and I am currently the vice chair of the group. I love getting things done effectively and efficiently, I actually won a scholarship for citizenship in grade 8. I enjoy getting to advocate for the youth of our community and getting to do so with all the great people involved in ABYA (including my brother). It is important to me that the youth of Airdrie are represented on topics that affect them within the community. I also love and am involved in my local church (Venue Church) on the worship team as a drummer. Another one of my passions is Construction. Getting to build anything from a flower pot to a house is fulfilling to me and I hope to excel on those skills as a career in the future. I’m so excited to meet any of y’all who decide to join our group! I highly recommend joining, especially if you are interested in advocating for youth as a youth or interested in joining the government in the future.

Madi B.
2020/2024

Hello, my name is Madison and I have been a member of the ABYA since 2020. I’m currently studying art at the Alberta University of the Arts with a concentration in painting, as well as jewellery and metals. I’ve had the pleasure of being a part of the amazing community of Airdrie for more than a decade, calling it my home for close to 16 years. I’ve always been passionate about connecting and uplifting my community and the people in it and the ABYA has given me many opportunities to do so. From the beginning, it has been a very welcoming and supportive environment; everyone is driven and devoted to making Airdrie a better place. It is an honour to be able to use my voice, my perspective, and my ideas to invoke positive change in my community and to have a hand in building its prosperous future! It has been and continues to be an incredible journey with a wonderful group of people; I am eager to see what our future brings.

My name is Cydney. I am currently a Recruiter. I take my role on the board very seriously and love listening to the new perspectives brought into the group. I've been with the ABYA for about three years, and I have been very encouraged to serve as a voice for others my age. In addition to the ABYA, I am currently working with Youth Volunteer Corps, Volunteer Airdrie Society, and Duke of Edinburgh Award. I am privileged to work alongside such a board that can share their views and values of community improvement and help the community improve for not just youth but all citizens.I look forward to seeing how our group will connect and grow into the community I call home.

Emerson W.
2022/2024

Hi, I'm Emerson. I have been part of ABYA for about a month and am excited to share my ideas with the group. I am eager to help out wherever I can when volunteer opportunities arise in our group and am always ready for my next challenge. One of my favorite things is Volunteering on the tech team at Venue church. I know how to do just about anything that involves live streaming. I am also involved in the leadership group at my school. Fun Fact: I am the youngest member of our group and my sister is the second youngest. Hope to see you guys at our future meetings!

Hi my name is Ashlyn, I joined ABYA in September 2023. In grade 6 I won an award for Mayor for a Day with my idea of a pollinator garden. This award led to the idea of joining the Airdrie Board of Youth Affairs. I also joined the board because I want to be more aware of what is happening in my community and to interact with City Council and Airdrie’s youth more.
