Mirza B.
2022/2023 Chair

Hello, my name is Mirza and I am 18 years old. This is my first year with the ABYA and thus far it has been an amazing experience allowing me to engage with issues that I am extremely interested in and affect me personally. This is my fifth year in Airdrie, before which I lived in Calgary. I just graduated from high school last year and am in my first year of Biomedical sciences degree at the University of Calgary. I feel very interested about topics related to health, especially as it relates to youth, and therefore getting to have a say in current problems such as vaping affecting youth health through the ABYA has been an extremely interesting experience. I went to school in Calgary and therefore haven’t been able to meet many of my Airdrie peers, so by being in the ABYA and previously participating on the Airdrie Junior Achievement team I have been able to meet many fascinating people that I have and will continue to learn much from. I am very excited to continue to be a part of the ABYA and learn from the wonderful individuals who are in it.

Yo My name is Kaylee. I have been with ABYA since the beginning of this year and I am currently the vice chair of the group. I love getting things done effectively and efficiently, I actually won a scholarship for citizenship in grade 8. I enjoy getting to advocate for the youth of our community and getting to do so with all the great people involved in ABYA (including my brother). It is important to me that the youth of Airdrie are represented on topics that affect them within the community. I also love and am involved in my local church (Venue Church) on the worship team as a drummer. Another one of my passions is Construction. Getting to build anything from a flower pot to a house is fulfilling to me and I hope to excel on those skills as a career in the future. I’m so excited to meet any of y’all who decide to join our group! I highly recommend joining, especially if you are interested in advocating for youth as a youth or interested in joining the government in the future.

Kaigh N.
2022/2023 Recruiter

Hello, my name is Kaigh and I am 23 years old. I have been with the ABYA for 4 years and it has been a revolutionizing experience for me to make a difference in my community. I have lived in northwest Airdrie ever since I can remember. I am currently attending the University of Calgary and am in my final year of a Zoology degree. I love all things Space and I am an aspiring astrophotographer, with a dream to set foot out there one day. I enjoy playing piano and getting out of the city, whether on a hike or a camping trip. I like to think of myself as a jack of all trades and volunteering helps me to learn new things and receive opportunities I haven’t been able to do before. Some notable opportunities I enjoyed were the Alberta Highway clean-up, the Airdrie Festival of Lights, and my high school’s car show, but all the opportunities taught me many things I carry across all of my endeavours. The ABYA has been a great experience for me as we have achieved things I wouldn’t have thought possible from a small group of youth and I am excited to work with all of these like-minded and amazing individuals to represent the youth of Airdrie.

My name is Cydney. I am currently a Recruiter. I take my role on the board very seriously and love listening to the new perspectives brought into the group. I've been with the ABYA for about three years, and I have been very encouraged to serve as a voice for others my age. In addition to the ABYA, I am currently working with Youth Volunteer Corps, Volunteer Airdrie Society, and Duke of Edinburgh Award. I am privileged to work alongside such a board that can share their views and values of community improvement and help the community improve for not just youth but all citizens.I look forward to seeing how our group will connect and grow into the community I call home.

Alex O.
2022/2023 Social Media Director

My name is Alex and I am a 21 year old resident of Airdrie, Alberta and I am currently the Social Media Director for the ABYA. I've been with the ABYA for 7 years and have been very fortunate to serve as chair for 2 of our busiest terms. I currently attend the University of Calgary and am pursuing an undergraduate degree in Health Science with a focus on Biomedical Science. My most outstanding contribution to my local community derives from ongoing involvement with the Airdrie Board of Youth Affairs where, as a cohesive unit, we strive to educate and empower the youth of our community. In addition to the ABYA, I am a former WO1 of the local Air Cadet Squadron, the 88 Airdrie Lynx, and am currently a gliding instructor at the Netook Cadet Flying Site and I extensively volunteer within the community through the local public Library, the Airdrie Festival of Lights, air shows such as the Wings Over Springbank Airshow, volunteering at the Calgary Aerospace Museum and Airdrie FEST. I am honored to have the opportunity to work with such a group that share such similar values of community improvement and I look forward to what these next few years have in store.

Hello, my name is Muhib, I am 22 years old. I have been with the ABYA for about 6 years now and it has been a thrilling adventure. I live here in Airdrie and have been here since I was 10 years old. I am a recent graduate from the University of Calgary and am currently researching at the Children’s Hospital. I also volunteer at various other local organizations here in Airdrie such as the Urgent Care Center and at the Airdrie Public Library but I have not been volunteering there as long as I have at ABYA. The Airdrie Board of Youth Affairs is a great way for youths' voices in Airdrie to be heard and is also a great way to meet many new and amazing people. The amount of events that we have participated in and the multiple times that we have made a difference in Airdrie youths’ lives has been remarkable. These past few years have been amazing and I am excited to see what the future has in store for us as a group.

Hello, my name is Madison Broussard and I have been with the ABYA since July of 2020. Airdrie has been my home for close to 14 years and it’s an amazing place to live. I've always wanted to help my community and the people in it and the ABYA has given me a chance to do so. The organization integrates the perspective of our community's youth into local affairs and encourages teamwork, leadership, and the empowerment of young people. From the beginning, it has been a very welcoming and supportive environment; everyone is quite driven and devoted to making Airdrie a better place. The ABYA has further connected me with my community and in the coming years, I plan on continuing this journey with this great group of people! It is such a wonderful opportunity to be able to use my voice, my perspective, and my ideas to invoke positive change in my community. This city is such a beautiful place and to have a hand in building its prosperous future is an honour. I am eager to see what the future brings!
